Common Types of Cabinet Hardware

Cabinet hardware may just be a small detail when it comes to your kitchen design, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important. In fact, the kind of hardware you choose can have a big impact on the overall aesthetic of your kitchen once the project is complete.

With this in mind, here’s a quick overview of some of the most common types of cabinet hardware in Las Vegas, NV that you might select for your kitchen remodel.

Openers

Knobs and pulls are the kinds of hardware most traditionally associated with opening cabinets. The style of knob or pull you select depends primarily on the cabinet. Ornate cabinets tend to benefit from more minimalistic openers, and vice versa. Matching the knob or pull to the cabinet is a small yet important part of kitchen design, something that not everyone is capable of doing well.

There are other options for ways to open cabinets without using knob or pull hardware, allowing you to keep a more minimalistic appearance. For example, you can use integrated handles in the cabinets. These cabinets have a sort of beveled cut at the open edge of the door or drawer, which makes them easy to open despite the lack of hardware. There are also hidden pulls, which are slightly visible but still more hidden than your standard pulls, which are clearly located on the door or drawer. These pulls are designed to be small and inconspicuous, and usually will be located at the top of a below-the-counter door or drawer.

There are also push latches, which eliminate the need for you to have knob or pull hardware. These latches are mounted inside the cabinet and are magnetic. Just press lightly on the door or drawer, and it will spring open. You then press it back down to close.

Closers

There are also some hardware features you may need to invest in to keep your cabinets closed. Hinges, for example, are needed for just about any kinds of cabinet doors. They connect the doors to the frame, and you have several options. Barrel hinges require a magnetic catch, and they can be a bit loud, which is why some people prefer to go with other options. There are soft-close hinges, which are much more popular these days and prevent doors from slamming loudly. These hinges are both discreet and fluid—they are silent whenever you shut the doors and drawers, no matter how large and heavy they are. This results in very little sound being produced.

Some people make use of door latches, though these are primarily used for families that have young children or pets and want to make sure the cabinets stay closed.
